WOMEN’S HEALTH, FAMILY PLANNING, & MATERNAL HEALTH

Family Planning

Women of childbearing age who need a form of birth control are eligible for the Family Planning Clinic.  Appointments include:

  • Comprehensive patient history

  • Physical exam

  • PAP smear, if indicated

  • Breast exam

  • Lab work (may include STD screening)

  • Education on birth control methods

  • Instructions on birth control usage

The Health Department offers a variety of birth control options such as condoms, birth control pills, Nexplanon, Depo-Provera shot, and IUDs.

Additional services that can be obtained through the Family Planning Clinic include:

  • Fertility counseling

  • Emergency contraception

Parental permission is not required for minors.  Cost is based on a sliding scale fee.

Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraception is available at the Health Department for prevention of pregnancy following unprotected intercourse or a known or suspected contraceptive failure.  Emergency contraception should be taken as soon as possible (within 72 hours) after unprotected intercourse.  It is not intended for use as a birth control method.  Appointments with our Family Planning Clinic are encouraged after use of Emergency Contraception.

High Risk Perinatal Clinic

The High Risk Perinatal Clinic is available to women who are at high risk for problems with their pregnancy and who are referred by their health care provider.  Appointments include an evaluation with a physician that specializes in obstetrics and gynecology, a registered dietitian, a social worker, and a nurse practitioner/registered nurse.  Other members of the health care team include a medical office assistant, lab personnel, maternal outreach worker, and clerical personnel.

Prenatal Clinic

The Prenatal Clinic is available to all pregnant women.  Appointments include:

  • Comprehensive patient history

  • Physical exam

  • PAP smear, if recommended

  • Breast exam

  • Lab work

HIV testing is offered to all patients.  Patients are seen by a nurse practitioner, a registered nurse, and/or a physician.  The prenatal health care team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, medical office assistants, nutritionists, social workers, maternal outreach worker, and clerical personnel.

Care management for high risk pregnancies (CMhrp)

Care Management for High Risk Pregnancies (CMHRP), previously the Obstetrics Care Management (OBCM) program, offers case management services, education, resources, and referral information to any pregnant woman who is Medicaid eligible.  Services may begin anytime during the pregnancy.  Assistance is provided as needed such as:

  • Applying for Medicaid

  • Locating housing

  • Obtaining other services such as food stamps and transportation

There is no charge for this program yet a mother must be eligible for Medicaid or Baby Love Medicaid.  However, all referrals are accepted to determine other program eligibility.
