JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH
The Jackson County Board of Health formulates policies and procedures for the Jackson County Department of Public Health. The Board’s authority is established by NC General Statute 135A-35: “The Board of Health shall be the policy making, rule making, and adjudicatory body for a county health department.” The Board works with Health Department administrators, clinicians, staff, and our community to protect and promote the public health of Jackson County.
The members of the Jackson County Board of Health are appointed by the Jackson County Board of Commissioners and shall be composed of the following 11 members:
Licensed physician
Licensed dentist
Licensed optometrist
Licensed veterinarian
Registered nurse
Licensed pharmacist
County commissioner
Professional engineer
Three at-large, representatives from the public
All Board members are residents of Jackson County, except as otherwise provided in NC General Statutes.

Regular Board Meetings
Under usual circumstances, the Board of Health meets quarterly (March, June, September, December) on the second Monday of the month. Dinner for Board Members starts at 6:00 PM with the meeting to commence at 6:30 PM. Meetings take place in Conference Room at the Jackson County Department of Public Health unless otherwise stated. Meetings are open to the public. Minutes are available upon request.

The Jackson County Board of Health will hold a regular meeting on Monday, December 9 in the Conference Room at the Jackson County Department of Public Health (538 Scotts Creek Road). Dinner for Board Members will be served at 6:00 PM and the meeting will commence at 6:30 PM. Citizens are invited to make written or oral comments. Written comments will be accepted by email before 4:00 PM on Monday, December 9 at publichealthinfo@jacksonnc.org.
