PUBLIC POOLS & TATTOOS

Public Pools

Any public pool, spa, or wading pool that serves multiple families must receive an annual permit to operate.  These pools may be located at hotels, apartments, community centers, etc.  Online health inspections are available soon after the inspection is completed.  Customers are encouraged to check the current sanitation score of any public swimming pool before swimming in the pool.

If you own or operate a public swimming pool in Jackson County, you should familiarize yourself with the State rules around operating a swimming pool.  A permit is valid for one year from the date it was issued.  Separate applications must be completed for each swimming pool.

To apply for a permit to operate a public pool:

  1. Review and be in compliance with the Public Swimming Pool Pre-Permitting Checklist

  2. Complete the Application for Public Swimming Pool Operation Permit

  3. Pay the fee

  4. Submit the application and fee to Jackson County Environmental Health

To apply for a permit to construct, install, remodel, or modify a public pool:

  1. Complete the Application to Construct, Install, Remodel, or Modify a Public Swimming Pool

  2. Pay the fee

  3. Submit the application and fee to Jackson County Environmental Health. Plans will be reviewed within 30 days of their receipt and a letter will be issued either approving or disproving plans


Tattoos

Ensuring proper sanitation and bloodborne precaution practices at tattoo establishments is important for public health.  Tattoo establishments are inspected once a year or more often if there are complaints Online health inspections are available soon after the inspection is completed.  Customers are encouraged to check the current sanitation score of your tattoo artist before getting a tattoo.

As a tattoo artist, you should familiarize yourself with the State rules around tattoo establishments.  A permit is valid for one year from the date it was issued and is not transferable to another location.

To apply for a permit:

  1. Complete the Application for Tattooing Permit

  2. Pay the fee

  3. Submit the application and fee to Jackson County Environmental Health. Applications must be received at least 30 days before the tattoo artist begins operating
