Nursing homes and hospitals provide care for people suffering from many illnesses.  Good sanitation in these facilities is important to stop the spread of illnesses to those who are receiving care and to healthy people visiting those who are sick.  Nursing homes and hospitals are inspected twice a year.  Online health inspections are available soon after the inspection is completed.

If you own or operate one of these facilities in Jackson County, there are several things you should know:

  • Familiarize yourself with the State rules around operating a hospital, nursing home, adult care home, or other institution
  • Know that you must have a permit to operate, building, or remodel one of these facilities.  Permits do not transfer from owner to owner.  Contact the Jackson County Environmental Health Section to find out what requirements are before you buy, build, or remodel by calling 828-587-8250 or -8253.
