Wise Guys

The goal of Wise Guys is to inspire males to make healthy choices regarding sexuality and relationships.  The Wise Guys curriculum is designed for males ages 12-14, focusing on reproductive health and sexuality.

Lessons teach young males strategies for dealing with social pressures from peers to engage in risky health behaviors.  Including, but not limited to:

×          Conflict Resolution

×          Assault/Abuse Prevention

Smart Girls

The goal of Smart Girls is to motivate girls to make healthy choices regarding sexuality and relationships.  The Smart Girls curriculum is designed for females ages 12-14 focusing on reproductive health and sexuality.

Lessons teach young females strategies for dealing with social pressures from peers to engage in risky health behaviors. Including, but not limited to:

Senior Seminar

The goal of senior seminar is to give seniors a refresher course in healthy decision making      before graduation.  Senior Seminar is a five part exploration with outside speakers reaching out to High School Seniors. Topics include:

×          Money Management

×          Personal Violence

×          Substance Abuse

×          STDs and Contraception

×          Legal Consequences of High Risk Choices.

**Health Educators are also available to provide information and education classes for all youth and parents living in Jackson County on health related issues such as nutrition, hygiene, puberty, alcohol and drugs, pregnancy, sex education, healthy decision making skills, etc.  If you have a health topic you need discussed in class and you do not have the time or information to discuss it, we are pleased to come in and cover these topics for you.  We will work with any age community or school group on any health related topic.  Our services are offered at no cost and are available upon request.

Community Programs

Worksite Wellness Services

The Jackson County Department of Public Health offers wellness programs for worksites and can be tailored to meet your specific needs.  Programs and services will be provided at your worksite.  We can provide education and prevention services to worksites related to decreasing risks associated with heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.  Both the employer and the employee can benefit from our wellness programs.  For more information about wellness services provided please contact the Health Education Department.

Healthy Carolinians Partnership

Healthy Carolinians of Jackson County was recertified in September 2009 as a Healthy Carolinians Partnership.  Healthy Carolinians is group of volunteer agencies and individual community members, working to improve the quality of health for all residents of Jackson County through improved health services, increased efficient utilization of health resources, and community empowerment.
